Google Summer of Code is a global program that offers students stipends to write code for open source projects. Google has worked with the open source community to identify and fund exciting projects for the upcoming summer.
Initially, it is presented a list of free software projects (open source) that are interested in making «mentors» to students. Then, students who want to participate have a project proposal related to one of the organizations that will make the choice.
This year, two CVC PhD students have received the Google Summer of Code; Jiaolong Xu who is working on large-scale structured prediction with approximate inference, a project for the open access software .
The other student, Lluis Gomez, is the second year that receives the Google Summer of Code. This year, he is working to improve and expand Scene Text Detection module in OpenCV.
