VISUAL TAGGING SERVICES AND WORLDLINE PRESENTED AT MWC A SOLUTION FOR RETAIL SECTOR THAT ALLOW INTERACT WITH PRODUCTS THROUGH AN APPLICATION WITH IMAGE RECOGNITION.
The demonstrator can be seen in the GEOX Store of Passeig de Gracia in conjunction with the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona (Catalonia).
Barcelona, February 21st, 2014. Visual Tagging Services, a spinoff of Computer Vision Center (CVC) and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in collaboration with the company Worldline, have developed a solution that allows mobile users to recognize different products, thus offering the ability to interact with them using a smartphone.
In conjunction with the Mobile Word Congress, Worldline is presenting a prototype at the GEOX store in Passeig de Gracia, that gives a lot of information of those physical products obtained by the mobile camera.
The image recognition has been developed by the company Visual Tagging Services (VTS). The aim of VTS is to develop software modules for allowing smartphones to recognize objects using the camera. Once a mobile device acquires an image, the developed prototype identifies the product, thus providing extended information.
The techniques used for this application is based on most recent image recognition and machine learning techniques. The application runs in a smartphone and is composed of two parts: one module that learns the objects to be recognized and another one that acquires the image, extracts the most important visual features and compares with the objects learned in a database.
This new application will allow mobile users, on one hand, to facilitate their purchase of products thus increasing the speed of acquisition and making possible the purchase process at any time and any place. On the other hand, the VTS prototype will allow retail companies to add additional information, and thus value, to their products.
