A very important parameter in managing the fattening process of pigs on a farm is the weight of the animal. However, it is not feasible to have this parameter in real-time as classic scales need time to record a measurement, so inserting a pig into a scale to weigh it is a laborious process. In this private-public partnership, we implemented computer vision tools, as well as the use of neuronal networks, that allow the automation of the animal weight process. That process improves and speeds up substantially after the technology was developed, which was slow and manual at the time. The technology contributes with support tools (intelligent algorisms) that allow breeders to decide up to the minute.
