Short Bio

I got the computer engineering degree in 2007 from Universitat de Valencia. In 2007 I spent nine months at University of Porthsmouth, UK, where I did my final project on human motion kinematic simulation, that was nominated to the best project award of the computer science department. I obtained my MSc degree under the Research Training Program (PIF) of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, at the Computer Vision Center (CVC). In 2011 I spent 6 months in the MAS laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Nikos Paragios, in Ecole Centrale Paris. In September 2012 I obtained my PhD as a member of the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems research group (ADAS). Starting in November 2012, I will be working as a post-doc in the Heidelberg Collaboratory of Image Processing.

My research interests include pattern recognition, tracking, feature matching and machine learning.

Research Projects

Feature Matching for Tracking as inference on a Graphical Model

(2009-2010) with Joan Serrat

Point feature matching posed as maximum a posteriori inference on a MRF. We go beyond the common 1-to-1 assignment, that is m-to-n multi-assignment. We extend it to multi-frame data association in order to perform tracking of light sources innight-time driving video sequences for vehicle recognition. [VIDEOS]

Image Contextual Representation and Matching through Hierarchies and Higher Order Graphs

(2010-2011) with Joan Serrat and Nikos Paragios

In my short internship in Ecole Centrale Paris, under the supervision of Professor Nikos Paragios, I've been working in image region matching. We propose an image region matching algorithm which establishes correspondences between regions from two segmented images. We formulate region matching as a high order energy optimization problem, where the spatial consistency and appearance similarity is maximized.

Cosegmentation through region matching

(2011-2012) with Joan Serrat, Antonio Lopez and Nikos Paragios

Following our research on region matching we explore an application to image cosegmentation. We model the appearance distributions of the foreground and background of an image in a fully unsupervised manner, and use feature matching to increase the consistency of the estimated distributions.

Video Co-Segmentation

(2012) with Joan Serrat and Antonio Lopez

The continuation of our previous work to apply our matching-based co-segmentation algorithm to video. We calculate spatio-temporal tubes using a hierarchical video segmentation algorithm in order to establish our atomic labeling units. We again apply matching between these tubes to avoid the iterative process to disrupt the figure/ground separation. [VIDEOS]

Teaching

I am an assistant professor at the Computer Science Department in the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). I teach in the second semester Software Engineering 2. These classes are focused on the study of Object-Oriented software design. Specifically, design patterns, test case management, and user interface design and development.
