Short Bio

  • Marçal Rusiñol received his B.Sc. and his M.Sc. degrees in Computer Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Barcelona, Spain, in 2004 and 2006, respectively. In 2004 he joined the Computer Vision Center where he obtained the Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Dr. Josep Lladós in 2009. He was also a Teaching Assistant at the Computer Sciences Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona during the period between 2005 and 2009. Between 2012 and 2013 he hold a postdoctoral Marie Curie fellowship at ITESOFT in France. Currently is an associate researcher at the L3i Lab in the Université de La Rochelle (France) and in the Computer Vision Center holding a Marie-Curie fellowship under the program TECNIOSPRING. His main research interests include Graphics Recognition, Word Spotting, Structural Pattern Recognition, Multimedia Retrieval and Performance Evaluation.

(An alternative spelling of my name is Marçal Rossinyol. This is actually my normal name in Catalan although it is not the one I use to sign publications and work in general, mainly because of bureaucracy issues.)

Datasets

During my research I created and used several datasets which are publicly available and can be downloaded through the following web pages:
  • The FPLAN-POLY dataset consists of a set of real floorplans which have been vectorized and a set of symbols which are taken as models. The ground-truth of this database defining which symbols appear in which floorplans and their locations is also provided
  • The GREC-POLY dataset and the MPEG-POLY dataset consist of a collection of symbols and shapes coming from the GREC 2005 symbol recognition contest and the MPEG core experiment which have degraded and then vectorized. These datasets are suitable to evaluate different shape and symbol recognition methods dealing with vectorial primitives.
  • The GREC-SEG dataset consists of a subset of symbols from the GREC 2003 symbol recognition contest with a particular vectorial distortion model.
