About CVC 

The Computer Vision Center (CVC) is a non-profit research center established in 1995 by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Its mission is to carry out cutting-edge research that has the highest international impact in the field of computer vision. It also promotes the transference of knowledge to industry and society.

Context and Mission 

The Learning and Machine Perception (LAMP) group is looking for a predoctoral researcher in the final year of their PhD to collaborate in continual learning research for visual generative models. 

The successful candidate will contribute both to fundamental research and to applied R&D in the context of collaborative industrial projects.  

Key Duties 

  • Conduct research in continual learning and transfer learning. 
  • Apply research to industrial use cases in generative image models. 
  • Collaborate with academic and industry partners on applied AI projects. 
  • Prepare scientific publications and project deliverables. 
  • Present research findings in international conferences or workshops. 

Requirements:  

  • Education 
    • PhD candidate in computer vision, machine learning or a closely related field, currently in the final year of their doctoral studies. 
    • The thesis must be focused on transfer learning for image generation methods. 
    • Must be expected to defend the thesis within Q3 2025. 
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience 
    • Previous research experience in continual learning and/or generative models. 
    • Solid understanding of deep learning and representation learning. 
    • Strong programming skills in Python and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch or TensorFlow). 
    • Experience working on applied research projects or with industrial partners. 
    • Knowledge of unsupervised learning techniques, domain adaptation, and generative adversarial networks (GANs) is highly valued. 
  • Competences 
    • Fluency in spoken and written English 
    • Ability to think creatively, work independently and make decisions. 
    • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and pressure 
    • The candidate must be an effective communicator, multitask, and work well on collaborative and interdisciplinary designs. 
  • Other merits 
    • Experience beyond what is required for similar positions will be positively considered. 
    • Previous collaboration or experience within Catalan public research institutions is an asset. 
  • Evaluation of applications: 
    • Candidatures that meet the above requirements will be evaluated using the following criteria: 
      • Requirements of the candidates (up to 60 points). 
      • Other merits (up to 40 points). 

Conditions  

  • The position will be located at Computer Vision Center (Campus Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). 
  • Full-time contract (37.5h/week) temporary contract 
  • Salary in accordance with qualifications and experience of the candidate and to CVCs salary regulations. 
  • Starting date: mid-June 2025
