Job Reference: 20250613_GIS_MSIAU

About CVC

The Computer Vision Center (CVC) is a non-profit research center established in 1995 by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Its mission is to carry out cutting-edge research that has the highest international impact in the field of computer vision. It also promotes the transference of knowledge to industry and society.

Computer vision is an exciting research area and an omnipresent technology, essentially empowering machines with the sense of vision. The CVC is a successful marriage between knowledge and innovation. In addition to our cutting-edge scientific achievements, we have established lasting ties with industrial partners and created several spin-off companies.

Context and Mission

We are seeking an engineer to join the MultiSpectral Image Analysis and Understanding research group (MSIAU). Initially, the position will be linked to the project to the project “SNSAT: Superresolució aplicada a índexs de vegetació a partir d’imatges satèl·lit”, an activity co-financed through intervention 7201 of the Strategic Plan of the CAP 2023-2027 by the EU.

The project aims to develop a satellite imagery processing system based on a web processing service (WPS). According to Stakeholders requirements, a web application will be designed and constructed to download data from providers, process data on a WPS developed in the project, and display the results with interactive tools.

The work will require to incorporate deep learning-based algorithms on a WPS, scaling them to process large multispectral images.

Key Duties

  • Design and Develop a Geographical Information System based on a Web Application.
  • Deploy a Web Processing System to centralize multispectral image processing services.
  • Adapt deep learning models to provide required image processing services.

Requirements:

  • Education
    • Software engineering degree or Computer science degree.
    • Master's Degree in Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Professional experience in Web Application development (front end and back end)
    • Good programming skills using Javascript and Python.
    • Knowledge of React, node.js, Nginx.
    • Proven experience in the generation and management of datasets based on Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, using Python and open-source tools such as MapMiner to access the Microsoft Planetary Computer.
    • Experience accessing on-demand Sentinel-2 data via Sentinel Hub (Planet Labs), and working with L2 data from the Menut satellite using the Visor Menut de Catalunya (https://visors.icgc.cat/menut/) and geoTIFF files.
    • Experience capturing and processing high-resolution multispectral images (e.g., with MAIA S2 camera), with the goal of evaluating super-resolution algorithms.
    • Proven experience developing geospatial web applications using JavaScript libraries (e.g., Leaflet, OpenLayers) and Python back-ends, including the implementation of Web Processing Service (WPS) protocols.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Knowledge on Remote Sensing Systems.
    • Experience in Geographic Information Systems.
    • Experience on Web Processing Services (servers and clients).

Conditions

  • The position will be located at Computer Vision Center (Campus Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
  • Part-time contract (30h/week)
  • Annual gross salary of €18,000, in line with the salary scale established by the institution.
