About CVC 

The Computer Vision Center (CVC) is a non-profit research center established in 1995 by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Its mission is to carry out cutting-edge research that has the highest international impact in the field of computer vision. It also promotes the transference of knowledge to industry and society.

Context and Mission 

The Vision and Language research group is looking for a research engineer to support the development of tools and benchmarks for assessing and mitigating intersectional bias in vision-and-language AI systems

The selected candidate will contribute to the design, implementation, and validation of a participatory bias audit tool and a technical fairness benchmark.  

This position is linked to project 101214711, InterVisions, funded by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). 

Key Duties 

  • Collaborate with domain experts to define evaluation criteria for bias and fairness in AI 
  • Implement bias detection algorithms and fairness metrics 
  • Generate synthetic datasets based on socially relevant prompts 
  • Build user-friendly interfaces and documentation 
  • Contribute to the creation of an open-access evaluation portal with a public leaderboard 

The selected candidate will also participate in interdisciplinary meetings, contribute to project deliverables, and support the public dissemination of tools and results, including co-authoring research publications. 

Requirements:  

  • Education 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science or a related field. 
    • Having a Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field will be highly valued
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience 
    • Solid programming skills in Phyton 
    • Experience with machine learning and deep learning tools (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) 
    • Familiarity with basic computer vision and NLP concepts 
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience – Highly Valued 
    • Experience with fairness, bias, or ethics in AI 
    • Prior work with image generation models and/or vision-language models 
    • Experience building interactive tools or interfaces (e.g. using Streamlit, Gradio, Flask) 
  • Competences 
    • Fluency in spoken and written English 
    • Ability to work independently and manage time and priorities 
    • Creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills 
    • Teamwork and openness to cross-disciplinary collaboration 
  • Conditions  
    • The position will be located at the Computer Vision Center (Campus Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). 
    • We offer a full-time (37.5h/week) temporary contract, with a supportive work environment and flexible working hours 
    • Duration: 14 months 
    • Salary: 30.000 euros annual gross 
    • Starting date: September 1st 2025
