 About CVC

The Computer Vision Center (CVC) is a non-profit research center established in 1995 by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Its mission is to carry out cutting-edge research that has the highest international impact in the field of computer vision. It also promotes the transference of knowledge to industry and society.

Computer vision is an exciting research area and an omnipresent technology, essentially empowering machines with the sense of vision. The CVC is a successful marriage between knowledge and innovation. In addition to our cutting-edge scientific achievements, we have established lasting ties with industrial partners and created several spin-off companies.

 Context and Mission

The Human Pose Recovery and Behavior Analysis (HuPBA) group is seeking a computer vision engineer to work on multi-camera calibration and 3D human pose estimation from video recordings. The role involves using state-of-the-art models such as SMPL-X to reconstruct 3D human motion from synchronized multi-view footage. The project may also include multi-view object detection and 3D scene reconstruction. This position is part of a broader effort to enable robust multi-view, multi-modal behavior analysis and synthesis in computer vision, machine learning, and affective computing research.

This position is linked to the project “Understanding Face-to-Face Dyadic Interactions through Social Signal Processing”, to which the UDIVA dataset is associated: a large-scale, multimodal collection of natural dyadic interactions designed to support research context-aware social behavior understanding and synthesis.

Key Duties

  • Perform intrinsic and extrinsic calibration of multi-camera systems.
  • Fit 3D human body models to multi-view and monocular recordings.
  • Adapt and run pipelines using existing frameworks.
  • Assist in evaluation and refinement of reconstruction quality.
  • Document processes.
  • Support dataset organization and public release.

Requirements:

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Audiovisual Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
    • Master’s degree in Computer Vision or a related technical field (or student in the final stage of studies).
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Strong understanding of camera calibration and multi-view geometry
    • Knowledge of 3D human pose estimation and body modeling.
    • Good programming skills in Python, including use of libraries like PyTorch, NumPy, and OpenCV.
    • Familiarity with 3D representations (e.g., meshes, keypoints) and basic optimization concepts.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:
    • Hands-on experience using existing 3D pose estimation frameworks and models (e.g., SMPL, MANO, FLAME).
    • Hands-on experience with 3D scene reconstruction and/or object detection frameworks.
    • Experience with intrinsic and extrinsic camera calibration in real-world or lab setups.
    • Experience handling and processing large video datasets.
  • Competences
    • Fluency in spoken and written English
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to think creatively, work independently and make decisions.
    • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and pressure.
    • The candidate must be an effective communicator, multitask, and work well on collaborative and interdisciplinary designs.

Conditions

  • The position will be located at Computer Vision Center (Campus Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), although remote or partially remote work arrangements could be negotiated.
  • We offer a full-time temporary contract (37.5h/week), a good environment, flexible working hours. Possibility to arrange it part-time.
  • Duration: 6 months
  • Salary: 30.000 € annual gross, in accordance with qualifications and experience of the candidate and to CVCs salary regulations.
