Postdoc position on continual learning of foundation models

We are seeking a postdoc to join the LAMP group at the Computer Vision Center (CVC), in Barcelona, Spain.
The position is for 2-3 years and linked to the project “Foundations for Adaptive and Generalizable Deep Learning” (EXPLORA), funded by Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades/AEI, focused on ‘Continual Learning for Foundation Models’ where the aim is to adapt foundation models to new tasks without forgetting previous knowledge. The focus of the project can be defined in collaboration with the supervisor, with potential avenues including optimization aspects, parameter-efficient adaptation methods, model merging theory, multi-modal continual learning, or adaptation to open-world scenarios.

CANDIDATE ’S PROFILE
The candidate should possess a PhD in Computer Science or related area. We are looking for candidates who have publications in top conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, etc. A strong background in deep learning is required. Experience in continual learning is preferred but not essential.
The applicants are expected to be fluent in both oral and written communication in English. They should work well in a team while demonstrating initiative and independence. The candidate is expected to co-supervise PhD students.
THE COMPUTER VISION CENTER
The selected candidate will work in the Computer Vision Centre (CVC), Barcelona, a research institute comprising more than 150 researchers and support staff, dedicated to computer vision research and knowledge transfer. With a strong international projection and links to the industry, the Computer Vision Centre offers an exciting environment for scientific career development. The Computer Vision Centre has a plan for expansion of its permanent research staff base and has received the “HR Excellence in Research” award as a provider and supporter of a stimulating and favourable working environment.

CONTRACT CONDITIONS
- Location: Computer Vision Center (Campus Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
- Contract type: full-time (37.5h/week), temporary.
- Duration: 2-3 years.
- Salary: €31,000 – €35,000 annual gross, in accordance with the candidate’s qualifications, experience and CVC salary regulations.
- Starting date: As soon as possible
