ELLIS Unit Barcelona
The ELLIS Unit Barcelona initiative is part of the European ELLIS network (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems), a pan-European initiative that promotes excellence in artificial intelligence (AI) research focused on machine learning, with an ethical, transparent approach centered on positive social and economic impact.
This unit is composed of nine leading institutions and is coordinated by IRI/CSIC-UPC and the Computer Vision Center (CVC-UAB), together with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), the five main universities in Barcelona (Autonomous University of Barcelona, Polytechnic University of Catalonia, University of Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra University, and Open University of Catalonia), as well as the four public research centers in the region specializing in artificial intelligence (Computer Vision Center, Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics, Barcelona Supercomputing Center, and Institute for Research in Artificial Intelligence).
This unit focuses on promoting both fundamental and applied research in areas such as: deep and representation learning, AI for science and medicine, computer vision, generative modeling, and explainable and responsible AI systems.
