| NEW VISUAL IDENTITY
In 2025, CVC Launched a New Visual Identity
On the occasion of CVC’s 30th anniversary, we took the opportunity to refresh our visual identity. The new identity includes a complete visual system inspired by computer vision and innovation, designed to bring clarity, consistency and personality. It provides a comprehensive toolkit for recognisable and engaging communication across all audiences.
Commitment to the Catalan AI ecosystem
CVC continued its commitment to the Catalonia.AI strategy, actively contributing to the promotion of AI in Catalonia through the coordination of the Artificial Intelligence Research Alliance (AIRA) and our participation in the Centre of Innovation for Data Tech and AI (CIDAI), the AI node of the Digital Catalonia Alliance (DCA).
Here are some of the highlights from 2025 within the Catalan AI ecosystem:
XARXA RDI-IA
Xarxa RDI-IA, coordinated by the CVC, achieved significant milestones this year. The AI ACCELERATOR program successfully fostered the development of new business ideas. Additionally, the 2nd Annual Conference of Xarxa RDI-IA, held on May 29, brought together over +200 key stakeholders to advance AI research and collaboration.
ELLIS Unit Barcelona
In 2025, the Unit supported AI events organised by its partner institutions: “AI Multimodal Analysis and Sport”, led by Dr Coloma Ballester (UPF), the keynote “Data Scaling Laws of Vision Synthetic Data” organised by Dr Petia Radeva (UB) with Adriana Romero and Michal Dozdzal (Facebook AI) and the 3rd seminar featuring Dr Oliver Brock. It also submitted new Fellow and Scholar nominations.
Ramon Llull - AIRA Postdoctoral Programme
The MSCA COFUND RLL – AIRA Programme, coordinated by the CVC, launched its first Postdoctoral Fellowship call in 2025, offering 17 positions. The call attracted 79 applications, 54 of which were eligible. After evaluations and shortlisting, the first cohort of fellows will begin their 36-month appointments at the CVC or one of 12 partner institutions in early 2026, reinforcing Catalonia’s AI research ecosystem.
ELIAS Alliance
The ELIAS Node Barcelona is a strategic hub for advancing knowledge transfer in Catalonia and beyond. Together with 7 nodes across 5 countries, it works to strengthen Europe’s leadership in AI excellence. Since the initiative’s launch in 2024, the Barcelona Node, led by Dr Dimosthenis Karatzas, has begun its first key actions, including participation in the AI Summit 2025 in Copenhagen.
UAB-Cruïlla Chair of AI in Music and Arts
The UAB-Cruïlla Chair, a public–private partnership, promotes cutting-edge AI research in Music and the Arts. In 2025, together with the CVC, it hosted “Artificial Intelligence, Arts and Innovation”, showcasing prototypes and an open innovation booth at the Cruïlla Festival.
12th Annual Catalan Meeting in Computer Vision
The Computer Vision community of Catalonia celebrated the Annual Catalan Meeting on Computer Vision (ACMCV) on September 17. Organised annually by the CVC, this event brings together research, talent generation, and industry in one day.

XARXA RDI-IA Renewal
We are proud to announce that the XARXA RDI-IA, coordinated by the CVC, has renewed its designation as an RDI Network by the Government of Catalonia. With the involvement of major stakeholders in the regional innovation and technology-transfer ecosystem, and representing 71 research groups from 23 institutions, we continue to uphold the trust placed in us to drive innovation and technology transfer in the field of AI in Catalonia over the next four years.

Smart City Expo Kyoto
CVC and the RDI-IA Network took part in the Smart City Expo Kyoto. The visit aligns with the Government of Catalonia’s strategic agreement with Kyoto, which promotes collaboration and knowledge exchange between both regions.

CVC, as a member of CIDAI, is part of the AI Congress program committee. This year, we also took part in the session on generative AI and creativity.

International Archives Congress
We took part in the ICA 2025 Congress with a stand dedicated to showcasing our research in Document Intelligence applied to historical heritage preservation.
Smart City Expo Barcelona
Smart City Expo World Congress
CVC participated in the Smart City Expo held at Fira de Barcelona from November 4 to 6. Within the Catalonia stand, the CVC presented its applied research and innovative projects for smarter and more sustainable cities.

Agrobiotech Innovation Forum Lleida
We participated in the Agrobiotech in November. This event serves as a meeting point for agri-food professionals, showcasing emerging technologies, sustainable solutions, and innovative strategies for 21st-century agriculture and farming.
| SPECIAL HIGHLIGHT
World Expo Osaka 2025
CVC participated in Catalonia Week at the Osaka 2025 World Expo, an initiative of the Catalunya–Japan Year, showcasing the best of Catalonia, particularly its innovative ecosystem. Under the theme “Catalonia: Land of Innovation and Avant-garde”, we presented two interactive demonstrations exploring the intersection of AI and creativity. We also carried out strategic visits to research and entrepreneurship centres in Japan.

Festival Cruïlla
The UAB-Cruïlla Chair and the CVC brought computer vision to the Cruïlla Festival 2025 with an open innovation booth featuring 2 interactive demos that invited visitors to explore and reflect on the role of generative AI in music festivals.
Open Day 2025
CVC celebrated its annual Open Day on May 9th. During the CVC Open Day, attendees had the opportunity to explore our facilities and laboratories, experience live research demonstrations, learn about the latest advancements in our research areas, and meet our researchers and experts.
European Performing Science Night
On September 27-28, the European Performing Science Night (EPSN) took place as part of the European Researchers' Night, an event designed to bridge the gap between science and society through an experimental and emotional approach centred on art. Project led by Épica Foundation – La Fura dels Baus, with participation from ICM-CSIC, UOC, and CVC.
Jornada IA, Arts i Innovació
An event organised by the UAB-Cruïlla Chair during UAB's Innovation Week, in collaboration with the CVC, showcasing various prototypes developed within the Chair’s framework — including the CVC's Town-UAB simulator, unpublished musical scores and generative AI demonstrators.
AI Workshops - ARGÓ-UAB Program
The UAB School of Engineering and the CVC, together with the Argó ICE UAB Program, organised two workshops on Artificial Intelligence aimed at high school students.
Bojos per la IA
The AI course from the Mad for Science (Bojos per la Ciència) programme of the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation is a course developed by the IIIA-CSIC, with the collaboration of CVC and IRI, aimed at 1st-year A-level students with a scientific vocation interested in STEM careers.
