EKITER (2020 – 2021)
Ekiter, founded in 2020, was a digital ecosystem that allowed the interaction between entrepreneurs, sponsors, collaborators, utility companies, investors, incubators and institutions with the aim of gaining funding or collaborations for start-ups in pre-seed stages.
The Ekiter platform minimized bureaucracy during the business model validation process. With the use of Blockchain technologies, which provide security and traceability during all its services and process, start-ups could launch crowdfunding campaigns to cover their financial needs in exchange of company shares. In the same way, start-ups could look for collaborations with a wide range of professionals such as mentors, developers, lawyers, designers, third party services, etc.
AllRead Machine Learning Technologies (2019-today)
Allread MLT is a Computer Vision Deep Tech Startup developing a cutting-edge character recognition technology, based on a Deep Learning neural network model. It was launched in 2019 with the collaboration of the Mobile World Capital Innovation Programme (Collider) and the CVC. AllRead tracks, extracts and converts relevant alphanumeric text from operational environments into Big Data using Visual Computing software. It improves efficiency reducing repetitive manual tasks and allowing immediate digitization and processing of the information. AllRead MLT focuses on the Logistics, Utilities and Manufacturing sectors, and is commercialized through a Software-as-a-Service and a Software Development Kit, which is able to run directly on mobile devices.
Orain (2016 – today)
Orain is a Fintech platform that combines Artificial Intelligence and IoT (Internet of Things) with a main asset: the interaction and communication with elements of the daily environment in an easy, dynamic, and intuitive way. Orain connects users with machines through mobiles, generating endless possibilities to improve the user experience in their relationship with the machine. Founded in 2016 as a response to the vending market needs, Orain became one of the solutions providing an enhanced purchasing experience in self-service machines.
The device, which can be installed in all types of vending machines, performs as a signal receiver and data collection centre. Users with the Orain mobile app connect to the machines via Bluetoothgaining access to direct communication with the machine as well as a set of functions: cashless payments, exclusive promotions, a 24h customer service. In summary, to a personalised and more “humane” experience. Orain also enhances the service for machine operators with promotion and campaign management, statistical analysis, customer preference insight and automatic invoicing.
Vintra (2016 – today)
Vintra was launched in 2016. Initial applications included solutions to help investigators conduct effortless, smart and accurate reviews of digital video frames. Vintra’s mission is to develop AI-powered video analytics solutions that transform video from any camera source into actionable, tailored and trusted intelligence, enabling its customers to build and maintain the safest and most productive organizations in the world.
Its solutions work in the wild, within several types of environments (indoor and outdoor), scene conditions (poor illumination, noisy cameras, etc.) and with footage from all kinds of cameras (mobile cameras, drones, body vests, car dashboards, etc.). They are able to identify a wide array of key attributes within a video including descriptive, definitive, scene and object attributes. Vintra’s services provide advantages such as an increase in security and the improvement of efficiency in monitoring and surveillance tasks, allowing professionals to focus on other higher value tasks and saving time, money and resources.
At the beginning of 2023, Vintra was acquired by Alarm.com.
Care Respite (2015-2022)
Care Respite was an ambient intelligent device that helped in the care of patients and dependent people at home (e-health) and in institutions. The technology was based on patented Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence technology that could recognize and monitor preprogrammed risk events which may occur to the dependent person. The technology is effective even in the dark due to using a RGB-depth camera. The device sends an alert to caregivers whenever a situation, which has previously been identified as risky, such as sudden falls, long absences or excessive agitation, takes place. CARE RESPITE was founded in 2015 and was supported by the Caixa Impulse Programme, and the European Commission through Innolabs Programme and EIT- Head Start Programme.
Crowdmobile (Knowxel) (2014 – 2018)
Crowdmobile was a technology-based company founded in 2014 that offered crowdsourcing solutions for data acquisition to companies and brands. The company developed Knowxel, a crowdsourcing platform with a community of users connected with their mobile devices in a feedback-on-demand environment. Within the Knowxel community, human feedback is a specific action performed by the user in order to fulfil a specific task proposed by a client. The spin-off’s work’s philosophy was based on the concept of crowdsourcing. In this way, a a challenge or issue proposed by a client is atomized into a set of tasks which are then distributed among a vast number of users. Users are rewarded for solving each specific task. The different outcomes from all users are automatically collected and evaluated by Knowxel, preparing a final solution which is then delivered to the client.
Visual Tagging Services (2012 – today)
Vistual Tagging Services was founded in July 2012 as a spin-off company from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and the Computer Vision Center, based on the results of several years of research of the ISE (Image Sequence Evaluaction) Lab group on Object Analysis. Visual Tagging is an image recognition platform which allows brands an enhanced experience of ‘social listening’: a deep insight into users sharing images of their brand products on Instagram and Twitter. It’s main asset is a high accuracy in the detection of brands, scenes and objects in the immensity of photos and videos shared on Social Media. The platform also provides complete analytics on customer insights and a set of tools to improve the engagement.
Cloud Sizing Services (2012 – 2016)
Cloud Sizing Services was a company that marketed the Verisize tool: a virtual fitting solution which is able to automatically estimate anthropometric measurements from a set of attributes. These measurements are then used to infer a garment standardized size. The main goal and asset of the tool is to reduce refunding in online shopping services. It was created in 2012 by a team of CVC researchers and engineers. It was considered the only tool in the market that can actually solve the issue of customer clothing sizes in online shopping.
Davantis solutions can be applied in any video camera surveillance set-up, whether new or existing, analogue or IP, day/night or thermal. The system provides a precise and real-time detection of intrusions and alerts either the security guard or the central station.
Inspecta (2003 – 2013)
INSPECTA, S.L. was a private company dedicated to the development of Computer Vision solutions. Established on January 2003 as a spin off from the CVC, INSPECTA focused its activities on the development, manufacture and sale of Artificial Vision Systems based on Colour Images Processing and self-learning methods.
Icar (Now Mitek Systems) (2002 – today)
Icar Vision Systems was founded in 2002 and developed an automatic reading system for identity cards, passports and driver´s licenses. This system is characterized by the capacity of data extraction and the efficiency and security offering its customers.
The company has refined a set of solutions in the field of reading and interpretation of personal identification documents (ID card, passport, etc.), by means of computer vision techniques. Its technology allows structured and authentication of official identity documents reading, facial recognition, analysis of advertising impact and flow of people through digital images. On 2017 Icar was acquired by Mitek Systems, a San Diego based transnational company, strengthening its position as a global leader in digital identity verification.
Visual Century (2001 – 2014)
VISUAL CENTURY was a computer vision company that developed Augmented Reality and Image Search Engine solutions. It was created in 2001 with the goal of turning research on Computer Vision and Multimedia into innovative software products and developing state-of-the-art technology to keep pace with innovation in their products. The company offered solutions with great added value for different sectors, such as Media, Retail and Internet, and it also developed Augmented Reality applications for mobile phones.
