Research Engineer Position

Context and Mission:

CVC is seeking for a research engineer to collaborate in one of the projects of the group, focused on the treatment and exploitation of data from the documentary collection of historical archives.

This project is funded by the Departament de Cultura from the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Description of group/project:

Research area or group: Document Analysis Group (DAG)

Document Analysis is a discipline that combines image analysis and pattern recognition techniques to process and extract information from documents from different sources. Sources include either raster formats, after scanning paper-based documents, or electronic formats such as ps, HTML, pdf, etc. Research subfields include paper layout analysis, optical character recognition and graphics recognition.

The CVC's Document Analysis group has research and development experience in the following concerns:

> Symbol recognition
> Indexing and browsing by graphical content
> Sketchy interfaces diagrammatic reasoning
> Visual languages for graphic documents
> Graphics recognition architectures
> Reading systems for forms and structured documents
> Camera-based OCR
> Fingerprint recognition

Requirements:

● MS in computer science specialized in machine learning and, in particular, document image analysis
● Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++
● Knowledge & demonstrable experience with Deep Learning frameworks (Tensorflow, Pytorch, …) and image analysis packages (OpenCV, PIL)
● Experience working in Linux computing environments
● Experience in machine learning, GPU programming, distributed data processing systems or high-performance computing will be a plus
● Able to work independently as well as within an interdisciplinary team
● Fluent in English. Good communication skills

Conditions:

The position will be located at Computer Vision Centre (Campus Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)

● We offer a full-time (37,5h/w) open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration (CONTRATO INDEFINIDO POR ACTIVIDADES CIENTÍFICO-TÉCNICAS CONFORME AL ARTÍCULO 23 BIS DE LA LEY 14/2011, DE 1 DE JUNIO, DE LA CIENCIA, LA TECNOLOGÍA Y LA INNOVACIÓN)

The Computer Vision Center

The Computer Vision Center (CVC) is a non-profit research centre established in 1995 by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Its mission is to carry out cutting-edge research with the highest international impact in the field of computer vision. It also promotes the transference of knowledge to industry and society.

Computer vision is an exciting research area and an omnipresent technology, essentially empowering machines with the sense of vision.
