Computer Vision at Barcelona’s Moll de Fusta

This year's anual science festival (Festa de la Ciència) took place at the Port of Barcelona's Moll de la Fusta (literally translated as the 'wooden pier') on the weekend of the 26th and 27th of October. The Computer Vision Centre prepared a workshop on how computer vision can help advance technological challenges in different ways. With two demonstrations, Diego Velázquez, Alexandra Canet and Núria Martínez, explained to the curious attendees how AI can help in the identification of human biometric patterns, on the one hand, and on the retrieval of newspaper images in archives, on the other. Still a highly unkown discipline among the general public, computer vision is one of the most complex technologies under the AI umbrella, and is becoming an important hub within Catalonia. Attending events like la Festa de la Ciència is of utter importance for a research centre such as the Computer Vision Centre in order to foster the comprehension of how computer engineering is help to advance the technologies of tomorrow.
