The Computer Vision Center (CVC-CERCA) is a non-profit institution founded in 1995 as a Consortium formed by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and located in the UAB’s Bellaterra Campus in Barcelona, Spain.  

With an outstanding team of more than 130 researchers and technicians, 2000 m2 devoted to R&D and the most advanced resources in hardware and software, CVC-CERCA now holds an international reputation for innovative research, technology transfer, and creation of spin-offs in the field of Computer Vision. Its mission is to develop prestigious research with international impact, to transfer knowledge to companies and society, and to train scientists and high-level professionals relevant in Europe.  

CVC-CERCA performs exciting and pioneering research in Computer Vision, in particular in the following key areas: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, Medical Imaging, Object Recognition, Document Analysis, Image Sequence Evaluation,  Colour in Context (Texture), Machine Vision, Interactive and Augmented Modelling, Human Pose Recovery and Behaviour Analysis, Learning and Machine Perception and NeuroComputation and Biological Vision.  

CVC-CERCA also coordinates the main relevant Research initiatives within the current Catalan Strategy on Artificial Intelligence (Catalonia.ai): the axis of Research & Talent (AIRA) and the ELLIS Unit Barcelona, jointly with IRII-CSIC-UPC and supported by 9 academic entities and created under the auspices and with the financial support of the Catalan government.

Description of the position: 

The Research Projects Office at the CVC is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated and organized person as a Senior Project Manager responsible for the coordination and management of the research, training and other operational aspects of different funded talent programs and proposals. 

The position is an exciting opportunity for an experienced project manager with important research background and a strong interest in digital matters to lead on the implementation of complex projects in close cooperation with the current Catalan Strategy on AI (Catalonia.ai) and, more specifically, with the different Catalan R&D institutions devoted to outstanding Research in Artificial Intelligence. 

Main tasks and responsibilities: 

As Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for the management of the research and training networks and support the Coordinator.  

You will be in the interaction hub between the Research (RPO) and Strategic (SPO) Project Officers of the CVC, and all the participating partners, and will be the key contact for the researchers that will be recruited though the Projects. 

You will closely interact with the Research Projects Officer on the execution of all management-related tasks, including: 

  • Identification of new funding opportunities for talent, providing proactive and tailored advice and support to the researchers in grant-writing tasks. 
  • Initiation of network activities by drafting guidelines for different participants and organising an efficient recruitment process. 
  • Follow-up and update of the work plan including reports. 
  • Set up and implementation of quality procedures, including risk management. 
  • Organisation and follow-up of all the training activities to be organized in the framework of the different talent projects. 
  • Preparation and follow-up communication and dissemination strategies in collaboration with the Communication Unit. 
  • Coordination of all the organisation aspects related to the projects: preparation meetings, agendas, and minutes. 
  • Financial follow-up of the projects (including budget control) and reporting to the European Commission. 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor and Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration.
  • Experience in managing National and European Projects, in particular H2020 and HEU framework programmes will be a plus. 
  • Prior experience working in the public research sector and/or with private-public partnerships will be a plus. 
  • Previous research experience in computer science will be a plus. 
  • Proficiency in working with MS Office. 
  • Experience building interpersonal relationships.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication in English. 
  • Capacities in problem-solving, prioritisation, time, and workflow management. 
  • Team worker, multi-tasking, work under deadlines.
