Research Engineer Position

Research area or group: Learning and Machine Perception (LAMP)

Green AI refers to environmentally friendly artificial intelligence. It aims to achieve sustainability through environmentally sustainable AI models with lower computational costs and lower carbon emissions. In this project, we work on the explainability of neural networks in order to reduce the computational costs of the models.

Note that this is a temporary collaboration.
The candidate will work for the project until January 31, 2024

Main responsibilities:

● Development of theory and algorithms for online continual learning. The focus should be on energy-efficient learning, preventing wasteful retraining from scratch
● Development of open-source code for continual learning preferably within the Avalanche library
● Publish results in high-impact scientific venues/journals

Requirements:

● MS in Applied Mathematics (Data Science)
● Prior knowledge of continual learning is considered a plus
● Good programming skills, especially python
● PhD in Machine Learning is a big plus

Conditions:

The position will be located at Computer Vision Centre (Campus Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)

● 3-months full-time contract (37.5h/week) contract, a good environment, flexible working hours
● Salary in accordance with qualifications and experience of the candidate and to CVCs salary regulations
● Starting date: October 01, 2023

The Computer Vision Center

The Computer Vision Center (CVC) is a non-profit research center established in 1995 by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Its mission is to carry out cutting-edge research that has the highest international impact in the field of computer vision. It also promotes the transference of knowledge to industry and society.

Computer vision is an exciting research area and an omnipresent technology, essentially empowering machines with the sense of vision. The CVC is a successful marriage between knowledge and innovation. In addition to our cutting-edge scientific achievements, we have established lasting ties with industrial partners and created several spin-off companies.
