CVC at Mobile World Congress 2024

The Computer Vision Center at MWC 2024

The Computer Vision Center attends Mobile World Congress 2024, thanks to the support of Generalitat de Catalunya, highlighting its latest Computer Vision technologies.

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the world's most influential mobile technology event. This year, the congress was held on February 26-29 at Fira de Barcelona. It was attended by more than 101,000 in-person attendees and +2700 exhibitors, sponsors and partners from 205 different countries and territories to find synergies and establish new partnerships.

During the event, our team presented all aspects of CVC's work showcasing a demonstration developed by our talented young researchers and students as part of our first-ever CVC hackathon. Coen Antens, Head of CVC's Innovation Unit, explains how to interact with the demo in this video.

The demonstration uses advanced computer vision and AI generative models to go from lip reading to image generation.

It highlights the possibilities that computer vision offers for improving accessibility and unlocking new opportunities for content creation, creativity, and education.

➡ At the venue, CVC booth received visits from distinguished institutional representatives of the Government of Catalonia, among them, Mr Pere Aragonès, President of the Government of Catalonia; Laura Vilagrà Pons, Vice-President; Joaquim Nadal, Minister of Research and Universities; Roger Torrent i Ramió, Minister of Business and Labour; Marc Realp Campalans, Secretary of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation; and Gina Tost i Faus, Secretary of Digital Policies.

Besides, many companies, institutions and professionals approached our booth during the Congress showing interest in CVC's work, among them, delegations from different countries coordinated by ACCIÓ, the Catalan Government's agency for business competitiveness.

➡ Furthermore, we also launched Investor’s Day at 4YFN where five projects selected in the 1st edition of the AI Accelerator program presented their innovative proposals based on artificial intelligence technologies. One of the projects was Oneshot, a multilevel lung cancer screening system developed by the IAM research group at CVC led by Dr Debora Gil.

The AI Accelerator program aims at fostering the creation of AI-based companies in Catalonia. This initiative is coordinated by Xarxa RDI-IA [CVC] and the Digital Catalonia Alliance [i2CAT] under the auspices of the Catalan AI Strategy (Catalonia.AI) and supported by the Department of Research and Universities and the Department of Business and Labor of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

All in all, CVC had the opportunity to present its research to a high number of professionals. After four days of intense work and networking exploring the added value of computer vision solutions, CVC team wrapped up with a good impression and plenty of new contacts to be worked on from now on.

We look forward to seeing you at MWC 2025, where our latest Computer Vision technologies will be presented!
